Q: Where do you make your caramels?
A: Our caramels are made in Chicago IL.
Q: I have never heard of the salted caramels. Why do you add salt to your caramels?
A: The idea of salted caramels comes from Brittany, France, where Fleur De Sel is harvested. Dating back to the 15th century, traditional caramels from that region were made with salt and were considered a delicacy. Salted caramels are made in France to this day. Katie Das simply borrowed the idea of salted caramels and created her own unique recipes that blend tradition and novel ingredients.
Q: Caramel description says that you use locally procured ingredients: what does it mean?
A: Whenever possible, we procure our ingredients locally to minimize “food miles” (i.e. how much energy was spent shipping the ingredients). Dairy cream, butter and honey used in our caramels are procured from the small sustainable farmers in the Midwest ( Illinois, Wisconsin).
